For this blog:

This blog is about our trip to Alaska with Gary and Alice Davis, Paul's brother and his wife.

We spent time in Vancouver, BC, Canada before boarding a cruise ship for a trip through the Inland Passage to Whittier and then on by bus to Anchorage.  We flew home directly from Anchorage.

Please do read through this blog for our narrative and the related photos.

More photos of ...:   A link in a post at the end of the discussion about a place. These are slide shows containing more photos about that place.  They open in a new window.  Because we liked the photo, but we try to limit the number in the actual blog to something reasonable.  (Under Construction)

More Specialty Albums:   Photos, not in the blog, that fit a certain category.  They open in a new window.  Because we liked the photo, but we try to limit the number in the actual blog to something reasonable.

May 13, 2016 - Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

We had a wonderful time in Vancouver sightseeing with Alice and Gary.  We have been through here a few times but never really spent time sightseeing.

First stop was a lovely Chinese garden.  They had the usual ponds...

(some with looooots of water lilies)

and fascinating rocks (the Chinese love interesting rocks),

and architecture (with the Vancouver skyline in the background),

and flowers.

There was even a gorgeous embroidery pieces with beautiful flowers.

We also spent a fair amount of time just wandering the streets of Vancouver.  There are some very interesting neighborhoods, particularly downtown...

and along the waterfront.

While wandering the streets we came across a fascinating, old (1875) steam powered clock in Gastown.  It always had a bit of steam coming from it but on the hour it really let off some steam.

We also took the elevator to the top of the Vancouver Lookout Observation deck.  We had great views of the city...

harbor...

and the mountains beyond.

Mt. Baker

We took a train back to our hotel in the evening...just in time to see a pretty amazing sunset.

May 14 and 15, 2016 - At Sea

We spent these two days at sea.  No photos to speak of although we did take a photography class on the 15th.  Otherwise it was relaxing, and attending a few presentations.

May 16, 2016 - Ketchikan, Alaska

Today we took a wildlife cruise out of Ketchikan.  Gary joined us on this cruise.

The water was smooth and the lighting great.

We saw eagles,...

Eagles Nest

bears,

and seals.

And the harbor was lovely too.
